Mr. Montez represents clients on a variety of criminal cases ranging from misdemeanor DWIs and domestic assaults to more serious felonies including robberies, gun-related charges, drug cases, gang-related shootings, fraud cases, and murder. Mr. Montez also represents clients on criminal expungements, orders for protection, harassment cases, and civil forfeiture cases involving the seizure of vehicles, money, and other property. 

Mr. Montez has tried a number of jury trials and bench trials, and has extensive experience in legal writing and oral argument in both district court and the Minnesota Court of Appeals. His experience in municipal prosecution provides him with a well-rounded and informed approach to client representation. Mr. Montez takes the time necessary to explain the complex legal process to his clients ensuring they are fully equipped with the knowledge necessary to make some of the most important decisions of their lives. 

Mr. Montez graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in 2015 Summa Cum Laude near the top of his class. In law school, Mr. Montez received numerous awards including a CALI Award of Excellence, as well distinguished honors in Moot Court and Mock trial. Mr. Montez also served on the Mitchell Hamline Law Review Volume 42, Part 1, where he was published for his complex detailed analysis of Minnesota’s DWI laws.

Mr. Montez has previously worked at the Dakota County Public Defender’s Office as well as a personal injury firm in Minneapolis. Mr. Montez also clerked for a U.S. Federal Magistrate where he worked on a variety of complex federal cases. In 2015, Mr. Montez began working for Colich & Associates focusing on criminal defense and municipal prosecution. 

Mr. Montez is a board member of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Criminal Law Section. He is licensed to practice law in both Minnesota State Court and Federal Court.
