Aissa L. Barrera earned her Juris Doctorate from St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas in 2019. She graduated Cum Laude and was inducted into St. Mary’s distinguished John M. Harlan Society, an honorary organization that recognizes students who have excelled academically and graduated in the top 10% of their class.
While pursuing her law degree, Aissa wrote for the St. Mary’s Law Journal. Aissa began working for Hilliard Martinez Gonzales LLP (“HMG”) in June 2015 and gained experience as a legal secretary and paralegal prior to law school. During her three years at St. Mary’s, Aissa clerked for HMG gaining valuable practical experience in a variety of practice areas, including automobile accidents and wrongful death cases.
Aissa began her legal education before law school at Texas State University where she received her Master of Arts in Legal Studies in 2016 with a paralegal certificate and mediation certificate. Prior to that, Aissa received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in 2013.
Since joining HMG, she has continued her success. Her skills have gained recognition from her peers and clients alike.
Aissa is a member of the American Institute of Legal Professionals, an invitation only membership comprised of the top trial attorneys from each state. She has also been recognized as an American Institute of Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 for the State of Texas. This recognition is awarded to attorneys considered to be rising stars, and among the legal field’s best attorneys. Aissa has been named as an American Academy of Attorneys Top 40 Under 40, a designation given to attorneys who demonstrate high ethical standards and exceptional legal talent.
Aissa serves as the Director of HMG’s Summer Internship Program, helping mentor and train young adults in the various types of work that create a successful law firm. Aissa enjoys ensuring that each individual intern gains the experience desired.
Outside of work, Aissa enjoys spending time with her wife and three young children.
