Bart Kaspero is a Trial lawyer, a legal-technology innovator, and a published researcher.
Practicing as a Criminal Defense and Privacy Attorney for 17 years, his innovative strategies have been published in several legal journals which has earned him a unique position of authority on the subject of criminal record privacy.
Fighting hard for Dismissals, Not guilty verdicts, and lowered charges, Kaspero brings a unique perspective to those accused by the prosecutors and regulatory agencies.
For almost two decades, he has handled 1000’s of complex legal cases on behalf of his clients. His experience spans over unique legal issues including accusations of serious felonies, misdemeanors, DUIs, Public Intoxication, Domestic Violence accusations, Restraining Orders, Drug Offenses, Sealing Arrest Records, Expungements, criminal record privacy, white-collar prosecutions, consumer rights, and data governance liability.
As an active trial attorney defending those charged with serious felonies and misdemeanors, Bart Kaspero’s journey into criminal record privacy law is far from traditional—and something he finds to be an advantage for his clients.
Graduating from UCI with honors with a Bachelors in Clinical Psychology, Kaspero postponed law school so that he can gain experience in finance when he accepted an offer from E*Trade. After leaving the company, he began his legal education at Chapman School of Law in Orange County, CA.
At Chapman Law, Kaspero became a member of the Moot Court honors board and took specialized courses in trial advocacy. He clerked for the Hon. Judge Ngo T. Nguyen (ret.) in the West Justice Center for the California Superior Court where he researched Miranda Rights violations, pre-trial Evidentiary motions, commercial violations, Contract disputes, and multi-party jury trials. He then interned with the City Attorney’s office for the City of Newport Beach where he obtained trademark and copyright certifications for the city and was responsible for developing a research strategy on First Amendment matters related to online Internet privacy policies. There, he learned the important facets of intellectual property law as it pertains to public agencies as well as private enterprises.
While still in law school, Kaspero also managed a consulting firm where he represented minority-owned businesses in obtaining commercial licenses and public entitlement projects. He worked on projects ranging from: entertainment licenses, city zoning amendments, CUP’s, general plan amendments, building code violations, Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) licensing, and other unique regulatory hurdles faced by businesses.
In 2006, he began his litigation career as a California state-appointed lawyer with the County of Riverside where he litigated both mid-level and serious felony cases to verdict.
His high volume of jury trials resulted in full acquittals (Unanimous Verdict of Not Guilty) and hung verdicts for the clients he represented. After leaving the County, he founded his own private practice in Orange County, CA.
For the next ten years, Kaspero managed a multitude of complex legal issues and was often put to test his client’s positions in the courtroom. His most notable achievements included:
● Representing elected politicians in high-profile criminal investigations
● Initiating Civil Rights lawsuits against several cities and counties
● Defending licensed professionals facing regulatory suspensions
● Secured numerous gag-orders related to consumer privacy violations
● Developed several proprietary programs to better serve his clients
In 2016, he completed a specialized credential certificate in BI/DW Technology from the University of California Irvine, which eventually would lead him to develop his own proprietary data mining and analytic/results validation tools where he utilized his own mixture of parallel computing (“big data”) tools.
With a strenuous learning curve, Kaspero developed the foundational knowledge behind designing dimensional models, working with relational database management systems (RDBMS), and using various iterations of SQL to build, manage, and edit large scale databases.
He is also the lead author a data privacy research paper published in numerous legal technology journals related to his criminal record privacy practice and data warehouse knowledge.
In 2016, Kaspero invented a way of automating the removal of private criminal records by conceptualizing what would be RecordFixer.com. Leading a team of legal researchers and designers, he build the first and only web-application that helps those with criminal records optimize their privacy from background check databases. Kaspero’s unique multi-disciplinary approach caught the attention of notable innovators and soon became a go-to resource for unique businesses and experimental entrepreneurs, most notably: blockchain programmers, information engineers, and advising emerging cryptocurrency quantitative traders.
While developing new legal technology for use in the public and private markets, Kaspero joined SKT in 2017 to add to the all-inclusive legal services the firm provides for their clients at the Huntington Beach office. There, Kaspero helped guide the firm’s clients into the cutting-edge of international trade and innovative businesses. Keeping his designation as Special Counsel for the firm, he left his position in early 2023 to establish Bart Kaspero Law in Irvine Spectrum.
