As a Founding Partner and Senior Trial Attorney at Leitner Varughese Warywoda, Brett Leitner has dedicated his career to helping people who have been seriously injured because of the negligence of others obtain the justice and compensation that they deserve under the law.

Mr. Leitner focuses his practice on representing victims of nursing home abuse and neglect, medical malpractice, and catastrophic injury cases involving car and truck accidents, construction accidents, and accidents involving negligent property and building owners and managers.

In just the past few years, Mr. Leitner and his firm have facilitated in the recovery of over $200 million on behalf of clients that were injured as a result of car and truck accidents, construction accidents (involving New York State Labor Law violations), slip/trip and falls, and defective pharmaceuticals, including the recovery of over $100 million alone in verdicts and settlements on behalf of the victims of nursing home neglect and abuse. Prior to founding Leitner Varughese Warywoda, Brett Leitner was a senior trial attorney in the Nursing Home Litigation Unit at a nationally renowned personal injury and mass tort law firm, where he spent years advocating for and representing elderly nursing home residents throughout all areas of New York State who had been neglected, abused, and/or mistreated while living in a nursing home facility. These cases are gravely serious and involve claims of injuries including assaults, extensive bed sores due to patient neglect, many of which require surgeries, falls with serious fractures and/or brain injuries, violation of residents' rights, medication errors, as well as claims of untimely and wrongful death.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Leitner developed extensive trial and litigation skills for years practicing at a national AMLAW 100 litigation firm, as well as at an AMLAW 200 international litigation and business law firm that provided counseling, risk management, litigation management, trial, appellate and transactional legal services to sophisticated corporate clients. Mr. Leitner also has significant experience successfully representing and defending claims of professional malpractice against doctors, nurses, hospitals and nursing homes, as well as defending landowners and business owners against premises liability claims.

Education

Mr. Leitner obtained his J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he received an academic scholarship and was a member of the school's Journal of International and Comparative Law. He obtained his B.A. from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor.

Mr. Leitner is admitted to practice in the State of New York, U.S. District Court, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit.
