After many years of practice in workers’ compensation, Elizabeth Woods continues in her commitment to provide effective, efficient, and consistent representation to each of her clients. She defends national and regional employers and insurance carriers throughout the State of Florida in claims involving work-related accidents. She has extensive experience in Workers’ Compensation litigation and has tried an abundance of cases successfully at all levels of litigation, up to, and including the Florida Supreme Court. Elizabeth focuses her practice on complex litigation, including a variety of medical issues and the effective use of discovery in claim exposure mitigation.
Her persistence in the pursuit of justice has resulted in groundbreaking changes to Workers’ Compensation law which gained country-wide attention now studied by Workers’ Compensation legal professionals throughout the State of Florida. In Sedgwick CMS v. Valcourt-Williams, 271 So.3d 1133 (Fla. 1st DCA 2019), often referred to do as “the dog case”, Elizabeth stood firmly on denial of employer liability for accidents which arise out of risks personal to an employee. The First District Court of Appeal reviewed the case en banc, and ultimately agreed with Elizabeth overturning the lower Court’s decision and ultimately denying compensability of the case.
Elizabeth provides educational services for claims professionals, employers, and medical professionals. She has served as an Attorney ad Litem and provides pro bono service for clients in need of free legal representation in various areas of the law. She is a standing member of The Florida Bar Grievance Committee for the Pensacola District and has been recognized by The National Trial Lawyers Association for her litigation experience. She has had extensive involvement in the Workers’ Compensation Institute yearly conference and has proposed, coordinated and presented breakout sessions for adjuster and employers, providing education in conjunction with physicians highlighting medical issues and the impact on claims handling efficacy.
