Howard Thigpen has extensive experience litigating cases as sole trial counsel in jury trials, bench trials, and arbitrations. He has litigated cases involving wrongful death, nursing home neglect, medical malpractice, personal injury, automobile incidents, premises liability, insurance bad faith, and breach of contracts.
Mr. Thigpen was born and raised in Mississippi. He is married with two children. Mr. Thigpen completed his undergraduate education in 1995 at the University of Mississippi, where he obtained Bachelor of Arts degrees in philosophy, political science, and sociology. He earned his Juris Doctorate in 1999 from the University of Mississippi School of Law. Since law school, Mr. Thigpen has focused his practice on litigation and honing his advocacy skills. As part of that focus, Mr. Thigpen has undergone the education and attained the experience necessary to be certified as a mediator and FINRA arbitrator since 2009.
Prior to joining Bachus & Schanker, LLC, Mr. Thigpen litigated cases to verdict both in Mississippi and Colorado. He has obtained multiple jury verdicts and arbitration awards. As a result of those verdicts and awards, Mr. Thigpen was honored with and named to The National Trial Lawyers – Top 40 Under 40.
In April of 2022, myself and the rest of our trial team obtained the largest medical malpractice jury verdict in the history of the State of Colorado, helping a newborn baby girl get the compensation that she deserved for the hospital’s failure to follow clear doctor’s orders regarding sepsis.
Mr. Thigpen is excited about the opportunity to use his experience to assist individuals in obtaining the justice they deserve. He is licensed to practice law in Colorado, Texas, Georgia, and Mississippi.
