Keith Miller is the former Managing Partner of the firm’s New York office and former Chair of the firm’s White Collar & Investigations practice. He is a former SEC enforcement attorney whose practice focuses on investigations and white collar crime matters, as well as complex civil litigation.
Keith's clients vary widely from representing early stage cryptocurrency-related companies and their founders to some of the world’s leading financial institutions, including investment banks, broker-dealers, hedge funds, investment advisers and commercial banks, as well as leading Fortune 500 companies. Keith frequently represents these clients in civil litigation and in connection with investigations being conducted by various federal and state agencies, including the New York Department of Financial Services, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), State Attorney General Offices, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Commodity Futures Trading Commission and Congressional committees.
Keith is one of the founders of the firm’s Blockchain Technology & Digital Currency industry group and co-leads the firm’s Blockchain Enforcement and Litigation practice. Keith has been instrumental in shaping industry-related legislation, appearing before the SEC, DOJ, Washington and New York state, as well as Canada’s Senate Committee of Banking, Trade and Commerce to impact laws and regulations surrounding virtual currency and blockchain. He currently represents various clients in connection with government investigations, including companies that have sold tokens in ICOs, international and domestic trading platforms, and advisers. He is currently handling over a dozen ongoing investigations and inquiries.
In addition to representing clients in the aforementioned high-profile digital currency litigations and investigations, Keith’s experience also includes handling sophisticated matters pertaining to anti-money laundering and Bank Secrecy Act, LIBOR rate-rigging, insider trading through networking firms, the subprime mortgage and credit crisis, public pension fund investments and the use of placement agents—commonly referred to as the “pay-to-play” pension fund investigations, the Bernard Madoff scandal and other Ponzi schemes. Keith also has been involved in several high-profile regulatory investigations and litigations relating to failed hedge funds.
