Michelle Mears
AkinMears, L.L.P.
Houston,
 TX

For over 20 years Michelle Mears has dedicated her legal career to helping injured individuals and families who have lost loved ones due to dangerous pharmaceutical drugs, defective medical devices, medical neglect, asbestos exposure, occupational disease and other catastrophic injuries. Michelle has fought multi-national corporations, large pharmaceutical companies and big insurance companies to win financial compensation for her clients in all 50 states, the United States territories and Canada.

As a diplomat’s daughter, Michelle spent a great deal of her childhood in Latin America and Spain. She received her Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs and Economics from George Washington University and her Master’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature from George Mason University and then went on to get her law degree from South Texas College of Law.

Having witnessed the struggles of people injured by the negligence of others and those denied access to justice, Michelle decided to become an attorney so that she could do even more to help those in need.

Before she became an attorney, Michelle worked as a Spanish-language legal interpreter and translator. In addition, Michelle used her Spanish language skills volunteering as a court appointed special advocate for children in foster care, as a tutor and mentor in public schools and at a legal aid clinic.

Throughout her career, Michelle has held leadership positions in a number of professional legal organizations and currently sits on the Board of Directors of The National Trial Lawyers, an organization composed of the premier trial lawyers from across the country who exemplify superior qualifications as trial lawyers.

Michelle is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, a qualification less than 5% of all attorneys in the United States have.
