Terrence E. McCartney is an accomplished trial attorney in a wide variety of fields, including automobile and trucking accidents, workplace machinery accidents and defective consumer products involving serious injuries such as spinal injury, brain injury, burn injury, blindness and wrongful death. Terry has successfully represented clients against many of the nation's leading product manufacturers and most of the major insurance companies. Terry has consistently received the highest peer reviews by the nation's leading organization that monitors and ranks attorneys throughout the United States, Martindale-Hubbell. The same organization has honored our firm with the distinction of Preeminent Law Firm, again its highest rating. Terry has also been recognized as a "Super Lawyer" in New York for many consecutive years, an honor given only to the top 5 percent of personal injury attorneys.
Terry has published numerous articles and lectures extensively at the local, state and national levels. He was a member of the plaintiff's trial team for the national Albuterol MDL class action case which resulted in a substantial settlement during trial. Terry litigated one of the first air bag product liability cases in the country to a successful conclusion and several more since then. He has successfully handled numerous automobile crashworthiness and defective product cases, including several heavy truck post-collision fuel fed fire cases, around the country and has obtained many seven figure verdicts and settlements. Terry handled over a dozen Toyota sudden unintended acceleration personal injury and death cases and served as the New York State Liaison Counsel in that litigation and also worked on the national MDL Plaintiff's Steering Committee on discovery matters.
Terry is an active member of his community, currently serving as an elected City Councilman in Rye, New York. Terry has coached various youth sports for many years and continues to coach a boys and girls boxing program. He served in the Marine Corps and the Marine Corps Reserves as an infantry officer for many years attaining the rank of Major before receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1997. He has continued to remain involved in veterans affairs since leaving active service. Terry also represented the widow of a 9/11 victim pro bono as part of AAJ's "Trial Lawyers' Care" initiative.
Terry was born in Hawaii. He grew up in a military family with four siblings. Terry has been married to his college sweetheart for 30 years and has two sons. He enjoys sports, reading, playing golf and fly fishing in his free time.
