Troy Brenes is a trial attorney who focuses his practice on catastrophic personal injury cases and complex pharmaceutical and medical device litigation. In recent years, Mr. Brenes has represented and obtained recoveries on behalf of hundreds of patients that have been injured by defective medical devices, including hernia mesh devices, defibrillator lead wires, hip replacement systems, and inferior vena cava filters.
Mr. Brenes has served as a member of the Plaintiffs' Leadership Steering Committee in the Bard and Cook Inferior Vena Cava Filter Multidistrict litigations. Mr. Brenes is also helping to coordinate and lead litigation efforts relating to the Cordis TrapEase and OptEase inferior vena cava filters. Currently, Mr. Brenes is also helping to lead and coordinate litigation efforts regarding various hernia mesh products. He also established and chairs a consortium of law firms, via the American Association for Justice, to coordinate litigation efforts nationally amongst plaintiff firms regarding inferior vena cava filter cases.
Mr. Brenes has been invited as guest speaker at multiple educational conferences for trial attorneys to share his knowledge and expertise in areas of science, causation, expert development, and regulatory matters relating to the litigation of medical device cases. He is co-lead trial counsel in numerous IVC filter cases pending around the country, and recently won a settlement from IVC filter manufacturer C.R. Bard, Inc. for a Nevada Plaintiff after an 11 day jury trial. Mr. Brenes is often brought in as co-lead trial counsel by other law firms once a case appears likely to proceed to trial.
Mr. Brenes earned his Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School in 2006. While obtaining his law school education, Mr. Brenes externed for the Cancer Legal Resource Center, providing free help to those with cancer-related legal issues. Mr. Brenes previously worked with a national multi-district litigation law firm in Newport Beach, California. While there, he worked on a variety of high-profile, complex-litigation projects including pharmaceutical and medical-device litigations across the country.
Mr. Brenes is a member of the American Association for Justice, Trial Lawyers for Public Justice (TLPJ), American Bar Association (ABA), and the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association (OCTLA). In 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016, Mr. Brenes was listed by Thomas Reuters' Super Lawyers publication as a Super Lawyers Rising Star.
