Charles L. Caperton has successfully represented the accused in Federal and State courts locally and across the nation. He has demonstrated, through not guilty and very favorable verdicts, a vigorous, intelligent and imaginative defense on behalf of his clients.

A former Dallas County Chief Felony Prosecutor, Caperton has held the preeminent/highest AV rating in a nationally recognized and published survey of members of the Bar and the U.S Judiciary for over 30 years.

Caperton was a Charter Founder of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, where he served on the Board of Directors for eight years. He has also been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for decades.

He has published papers in Law Journals and has been a featured speaker at legal seminars covering topics such as Criminal Voir Dire (Jury Selection - State and Federal); Expunging a Criminal Record in Texas; and Plea Bargaining in Drug Cases in State and Federal Courts.

He served as Criminal Law Editor of Texas Trial Lawyers Forum magazine, Chairman of the Criminal Law Section of the Dallas Bar Association, Board member of Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers, a member of the Penal Code Revision Committee of the State of Texas, and a Fellow of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Educational Institute. He has been a member of the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice.

Currently he is the only attorney to be selected to the Board of Directors of both the Criminal Defense Lawyers and Plaintiffs Personal Injury lawyers (Texas Trial Lawyers) associations, a unique honor.

On the civil side of his practice, he has represented victims in catastrophic injury and death cases in industrial, construction, defective products, medical malpractice, clergy abuse, commercial trucking and explosion cases.

He was elected president of the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association and served eight years on the Board of Directors of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association; served 2 terms as State Committeeman for the American Trial Lawyers Association (The American Association for Justice); was named a member of the Honor Roll of Champions by the Civil Justice Foundation and is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, for attorneys who have obtained verdicts and settlements in excess of a Million Dollars.

He has been an associate-in-law of the American College of Legal Medicine for over 20 years.

He received his Bachelors and Juris Doctorate Degrees at Southern Methodist University, where he received the Student Bar Award and served as Associate Justice on the Student Supreme Court, as well as Chief Counsel of the Legal Aid and Defender's Clinic.

He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States; The 5th and 11th Federal Circuit Courts of appeal and the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western Federal District courts of Texas and the Western and Eastern Federal Districts of Oklahoma. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Texas and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals; and has been admitted to practice on a per case basis in State and Federal Courts across the United States.
