A 1978 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, and a lawyer for over 30 years, Evan Pierce-Jones has been board certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since1998. After a short time as a young lawyer with an insurance defense firm in Beaumont, Texas, and service as an administrative prosecutor with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, he opened his own office in Austin, Texas, in 1986, focusing on criminal defense, and earning the nickname "Mad Dog".
In 1994, Evan moved to San Angelo, Texas, to serve as an assistant district attorney. From 1994 - 1999, he prosecuted cases ranging from simple drug possession and violations of probation through counterfeiting and organized crime, to murder. He served as a guest speaker at the local law enforcement academy on domestic violence and on presentation of police testimony, and wrote an instruction manual for handling of motions to revoke probation for the offices of the 51st & 119th district attorneys.
Since leaving the prosecutors' office to return to private practice in Fall of 1999, Evan has maintained an active criminal defense practice, handling cases in the San Angelo area and from Lubbock to Austin and Fort Stockton to Brownwood. Along the way, he has represented defendants from almost every walk of life, on charges ranging from misdemeanors like first offense driving while intoxicated and reckless driving to high profile drug cases, sexual assaults, and murder, and including cases involving intense local and national news coverage.
As a trial lawyer, Evan works to stay current with leading edge techniques in jury trial practice.
With a bachelor's degree and graduate work in psychology and social work, and as a former member of the board of directors of Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services for the Concho Valley, Evan has a strong background and interest in the psychological issues of criminal law.
Evan is a co-founder and charter member of the Concho Valley Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He brings that same background in psychology to his family law practice, seeking to understand the point of view of each family law client, what they need and desire, and why, so as to serve them better.
Whether you have just been arrested, are seeking representation for a trial, want to appeal a conviction you have already received, have decided to seek a divorce, or are facing child support or child custody issues, Evan stands ready to help, and urges you to never guess about your rights or be the one who has to say, "I should have called a lawyer."
