James E. "Jimmy" Courtenay has been litigating personal injury cases and other civil litigation matters for over 12 years.

He spent his first 7.5 years of practice at one of the oldest civil defense firms in New Orleans. During those years, Jimmy specialized in defending catastrophic loss cases, 18-wheeler accidents, and other large loss cases by land and by sea. He represented insurance companies, trucking companies, and corporations in personal injury matters, insurance coverage disputes, high value property damage, and contractual obligations arising out of accidents/incidents.

Jimmy is a former member of the Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA), the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM), Transportation Lawyers Association, and the Mariners Club of the Port of New Orleans.

In 2016, Jimmy started The Courtenay Law Firm, spending 4.5 years in association with another law firm to handle personal injury matters for injured parties, while continuing to handle some personal injury defense matters, and assisting other attorneys in high value personal injury litigation.

In April of 2021, Jimmy merged his law firm with two other amazing lawyers, Jeff Green and Cayce Peterson. The new law firm, JJC Law LLC, continues to handle automobile accidents, trip/slip and falls, and 18 wheeler accidents. Jimmy's practice also expanded into handling marine personal injury, mass tort, and product liability matters thanks to the expertise of his partner Cayce Peterson. JJC Law is often asked to associate with other lawyers and enjoys partnering with them to assist clients with claims and litigation all over Louisiana.

Jimmy is rated AV Preeminent® by Martindale Hubbell, is a member of the Academy of New Orleans Trial Lawyers, the Louisiana and American Association for Justice, the American Bar Association Tort and Insurance Practice Section, the New Orleans Bar Association, and the Jefferson Parish Bar Association.

From 2015-2021, Jimmy was selected as a "Rising Star" (lawyers under age 40) by Super Lawyers. Now over 40, Jimmy recently learned that he was selected as a Super Lawyer for 2022 in the category of "Personal Injury General: Plaintiff".

Jimmy obtained his law degree from Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge (2008) and holds a Bachelors Degree in Accounting (2003) and Masters Degree in Public Administration (2005) from LSU.

In college, Jimmy played one year of football at Ole Miss (1999 season) before transferring to play for LSU under then new coach Nick Saban. Jimmy played for the Tigers from 2000-2003, which culminated with the 2003 National Championship here in New Orleans.

After law school, Jimmy returned to New Orleans and played rugby with the New Orleans Rugby Football Club. Jimmy played prop and lock for the Club and served as Treasurer for several years before starting a family. Currently, Jimmy enjoys participating in a few different men's league basketball teams that play at night during the week.

Jimmy was born and raised in New Orleans, graduating from Christian Brothers School and Jesuit High School. He now lives in New Orleans with his wife and four daughters.
