Kent is a lifelong resident of Northern California and knew from an early age that he was going to be a trial lawyer. Before graduating from California State University, Chico in 1981 he served as a Director of the Community Legal Information Center. Immediately upon graduation, Kent worked as a paralegal with a large Sacramento litigation firm serving as the “right hand” to talented trial lawyers. Kent continued working for the firm while attending the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. Based on the strength of his written brief and oral argument, Kent was selected for the prestigious moot court honors board. Working to hone his trial skills, Kent served as a certified law student in the office of the United States Attorney; in this position he completed ten unassisted trials before graduating law school.
After completing law school, Kent joined an established litigation firm handling a wide variety of cases and was eventually made partner. Kent successfully tried cases for many of the world’s largest corporations and insurance companies. In 2001 one of Kent’s many clients invited him to join as an in house litigator. Kent remained with the company until 2017, serving as Senior Trial Lawyer with a specialty defending catastrophic injury and wrongful death lawsuits. His practice is now limited to protecting the rights of people injured by the actions of others.
Kent is a member of the invitation only American Board of Trial Advocates, with membership limited to less than 1% of all trial attorneys. Kent is certified as an “advocate” by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy and holds the highest possible peer review rating of “AV Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell. He has been a panelist for education programs sponsored by the American Board of Trial Advocates as well as the National Business Institute. Kent serves local courts by hearing settlement conferences and arbitrations.
Away from the office, Kent enjoys baseball, travel and swimming. He and his wife have a family that includes a son and daughter in law, 3 beautiful grandchildren and 4 very active dogs.
