I was born and raised in Pleasantville. I attended and graduated from Pleasantville Elementary School, E. O. Smith Junior High School, Furr High School. I attended North Texas State University and graduated cum laude from the University of Houston in Speech Pathology
In 1982, I entered law school at the University of Texas in Austin and graduated in 1984. In August of 1984, I worked at the Harris County District Attorney's office as an Assistant District Attorney until 1990 when I began my private practice.
For five years I served as a visiting Magistrate for misdemeanor criminal courts in Harris County.
In 2008, I received the Unsung Heroes Award from the Harris County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. I have taught and lectured at Thurgood Marshall School of Law with regard to the death penalty and capital murder.
