M. David Shapiro is an attorney with a top notch education. After graduating from the College of Journalism at the University of Florida in 1981, he moved on in 1985 to accept his law degree from Florida State University College with honors. This was also the same year he was accepted to the Florida State Bar. While at the College of Law, David Shapiro served for the prestigious Florida State Law Review, publishing articles regarding the Safety Belt Law and Libel and Defamation. He was additionally picked to represent his school, the Florida State College of Law, at the National Moot Court as well as the National Mock Trial annual competitions.
Mr. Shapiro's experience reflects upon his impressive school career. He has become an AV-rated lawyer in civil trial, which is the highest rating a lawyer can receive. He has also become board certified in the state by the Bar. Attorney M. David Shapiro has experience in trial law, earning him the respect of others in many areas of the legal community. Proving himself often, he has been successful in litigating civil rights cases, including access to rights and courts under the Rehabilitation Act to the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Shapiro is admitted to be able to practice in every level of Florida State Court, as well as the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and finally, for the United States Court of Appeal for the Eleventh Circuit. Working for over 20 years, he has practiced his craft exclusively in wrongful death and personal injury. He has been a close candidate for a political office, only narrowly losing a seat in the Florida House of Representatives in 2006.
His activities, associations and awards serve to round out his impressive professionalism. Mr. Shapiro is proud to be a part of The Association of Trial Lawyers of America, an Eagle Member of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, the American Association of Justice, the Florida Justice Association, and finally, The American Bar Association and the Sarasota Bar Association. He also participates in the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, which is a specific group of lawyers whose work has achieved cases in their careers that recovered a million dollars or more in verdicts or settlements.
He has been a guest lecturer among different civic organizations in wrongful death, personal injury, and negligence in nursing homes. He has been the author of many different articles in The Bradenton Herald, The Sarasota Herald Tribune, The Suncoast Health Magazine, and the Englewood Sun Herald. He attends annual specialized programs regarding trial practice and how to handle personal injury cases.
Finally, Mr. Shapiro has reached out to the community. He is the Treasurer at Children First, a trustee member at the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, sits on the Board of Directors at the Sarasota Film Festival, and volunteers at the Sarasota Civic League.
