Messina Madson most recently served as the First Assistant of the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. The youngest attorney ever appointed to that role, she also served as Acting DA for a total of 18 weeks because of health issues facing the former DA.

As First Assistant, Messina oversaw approximately 220 attorneys and nearly 500 total employees. A thought leader in criminal justice reform, Messina helped create the DA in Schools program, which helps build relationships between law enforcement and at-risk youth, and the Reformative Justice Unit, which is the nation’s largest DA-driven diversion unit.

Before she was appointed First Assistant, Messina served as Administrative Chief of the Misdemeanor Division and Deputy Chief of the Family Violence Division. She was named the Dallas County Prosecutor of the Year in 2014.

Messina received her undergraduate degree from the University of Tulsa spending her last year abroad in Germany. She earned a juris doctor from the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and immediately joined the DA’s office, where she served for more than a decade.
