Mr. DeMatt's practice is focused on the areas of criminal defense (federal and state) and personal injury litigation (including wrongful death, auto accidents, fall downs and other personal injury actions). He also handles general civil litigation, such as contract and landlord/tenant disputes.

He has litigated scores of civil and criminal matters, including over 30 jury trials. He has successfully litigated such trials in both federal and state court, including acquittals in a homicide case and a federal case in which his client was accused of selling counterfeit software to the U.S. Army.

Mr. DeMatt has represented plaintiffs in wrongful death and catastrophic loss cases in both federal and state court. He has also been involved in complex civil litigation including products liability and a landslide case involving environmental issues.

He is originally from Newark, DE, where he attended the University of Delaware, graduating with a degree in English Literature. Before attending college, while in high school, Mr. DeMatt worked as a draftsman and a computer-aided design operator for a professional engineer. During college, he studied abroad in Italy, played club lacrosse, and was an assistant coach for his former high school lacrosse team. After graduation, he worked as an instructor at Kaplan teaching standardized test preparation.

Mr. DeMatt then attended law school at Washington & Lee University School of Law in Lexington, VA. He was a research assistant to Professor Louise Halper, and had internships with the Public Defender’s Offices in Baltimore, MD and Staunton, VA. During each of these internships, he had the opportunity to assist in the defense of a homicide trial. While in law school, he played rugby and was treasurer, and then president of the Washington & Lee Law Rugby Football Club. Also during this time, he met his wife, Amy, a native of Greensburg, who brought him to western Pennsylvania after graduation.

Mr. DeMatt continues to be involved in both playing and promoting the game of lacrosse, coaching youth lacrosse.
