Nate was born in Iowa City, Iowa on September 25, 1990. Less than a year later, Nate moved to Des Moines with his parents so his father could begin his first year at Drake Law School. Over the course of the next three years, Nate’s mother worked two jobs to make ends meet so Nate’s father could focus on school. After his father graduated, Nate’s family moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa where Nate and his two younger brothers grew up.
As a kid, Nate spent the majority of his time with his brothers and a core group of close friends—all of whom remain in touch to this today. Together they shared a typical Iowa childhood, spending their summers outdoors and winters in basements playing video games and discussing the upcoming football season. Nate has always loved to listen and share stories with others; some of his best memories include listening to his father’s “war stories” from his days as a public defender. These stories first inspired Nate to become a trial lawyer.
After graduating high school in 2009, Nate moved back to Iowa City so he could attend school at the University of Iowa. There, Nate jumped at every opportunity that allowed him to learn or try something new. As a result, Nate worked a variety of different jobs, volunteered at multiple youth organizations, and made new friends from all over Iowa.
In 2015, Nate started at Drake Law School in Des Moines. During school, Nate was a founding member and officer of Drake’s student chapter of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), an organization that brought some the country’s most successful plaintiff’s trial lawyers to Drake for seminars and other student events. After graduating, Nate accepted a position at Spaulding & Shaull, the same place he worked as a law clerk during school.
In his free time, Nate enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading about history and politics—past presidents especially, going to plays and musicals at the Des Moines Performing Arts Center, and watching sports.
Nate loves what he does. His practice is dedicated to fighting on behalf of ordinary Iowans, many of whom have been injured through no fault of their own, and each of whom have their own unique stories to tell. Nate is committed to protecting the rights of those Iowans and making sure their stories are told—and told well.
