Thomas M. Dempsey is in private practice in Beverly Hills. He is a nationally recognized, AV-rated trial lawyer who has tried more than 150 cases, obtaining numerous large verdicts and settlements. Although his practice emphasizes the areas of spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries, he has successfully handled all categories of personal injury and wrongful death cases, in both federal and state courts, during his almost 40 year career. Yearly named as a 'Super Lawyer' since 2004, Mr. Dempsey was president of the Public Justice Foundation (formerly known as Trial Lawyers for Public Justice) (2005-2006). He is the recipient of the Public Justice Foundation 2009 Champion of Justice and the 2011 Public Justice Achievement Award for the case of Castaneda v. State of California (voted one of the top ten verdicts of 2010 by the Los Angeles Daily Journal). Mr. Dempsey is a member of the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Lawyers and is chair of the Traumatic Brian Injury Litigation Group of the American Association for Justice. He is a past President of Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (1993), received its Ted Horn Memorial Award (1994), and has twice been its Trial Lawyer of the Year nominee. He was Vice-President of Consumer Attorneys of California, received its Outstanding Chapter President award (1993), and is currently a finalist for CAOC'S esteemed 2010-2011 Consumer Attorney of the Year Award. Mr. Dempsey has been a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates since 1978 and is a member of the United States Supreme Court Bar. He was the president of the National Melvin Belli Society. He is a former adjunct professor at Southwestern Law School and Whittier Law School. He has served on the Executive Committee of the LACBA Litigation Section and is a member of its Bench and Bar Committee. Finally, Mr. Dempsey has been a commentator in both the electronic and printed media, regarding legal issues, including the O.J. Simpson civil trial, medical negligence recovery limitations, travel industry litigation.
