Thomas Hayes earned his B.S. in Political Science from Hartwick College located in his home state of New York. In 1990, Tom moved to Columbus, Ohio in pursue a career in law. Tom graduated from Capital University Law School in 1993, with his Juris Doctor and immediately began his career as a Criminal Defense Attorney in the Franklin County Public Defenderâ€™s Office. He opened The Law Office of Thomas F. Hayes, LLC. in 2006 so that he could expand his ability to represent a more diverse set of clients.
Over the course of his career, he has represented thousands of clients in all types of criminal proceedings. He has handled some of the most complex cases in the state, including death penalty cases and federal cases. He has the reputation and the necessary report with judges and court personnel to step into any courtroom and ultimately bring a case to its best conclusion for the client he is representing.
Tom is familiar with the fight that takes place in every criminal case. He will fight for your rights, stand up to the government, and provide you with the best available options in your case.
In 2014, Tom ran for Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge and narrowly lost a competitive campaign. In that race, he was highly rated by the Columbus Bar Associationâ€™s screening committee. From 2007-2019, Tom served as a board member for Alvis, Inc., a community-based drug and alcohol treatment program. Tom also serves the Grandview Heights Educational Foundation as a board member and is the board Vice President for North East Storm Hockey.
Tom is licensed to practice law in Ohio and the United States District Court, Southern District of Ohio. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, Columbus Bar Association, the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
