Brett Mangrum has over two decades of intellectual property experience from all sides of the table. As a named inventor on eight U.S. patents—several of which he personally drafted—Brett combines deep technical expertise with legal acumen.
While attending law school at night, Brett worked full-time as an engineer developing advanced nanoelectromechanical systems. He graduated in the top 10% of his class, served as a law review editor, and published two articles. Upon graduation, he transitioned from engineering to join a respected national law firm, focusing on patent prosecution and litigation.
In 2012, Brett moved in-house as a senior vice president, where he oversaw the monetization of a substantial patent portfolio. His role included managing teams of in-house and external experts and working closely with outside counsel on licensing and litigation. During this time, D CEO magazine recognized him as a Top Corporate Lawyer in Dallas–Fort Worth. Leveraging his combined engineering and legal experience, Brett launched a private legal practice in 2015, which he successfully grew mainly through client referrals.
Today, Brett’s practice centers on helping clients develop and monetize patent portfolios—including through trial and appeal when necessary—and defending the validity of issued patents in post-grant proceedings. Brett was recently ranked #1 nationally (by Patexia.com) as the most active inter partes review (IPR) attorney and #8 nationally for achieving successful outcomes for patent owners. His broad background enables him to quickly grasp and master the complex technological and legal issues that matter most to a case.
