
Abra is an experienced litigator whose practice includes both criminal and civil matters, with a focus on criminal defense and state and federal regulatory investigations. Abra was a member of the Hecker Fink trial team that secured an acquittal for their client, Robert Bogucki, the former global head of foreign exchange trading at Barclays. The case, which was brought by the Department of Justice in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, accused Mr. Bogucki of orchestrating a $6 billion front-running scheme.
Abra previously worked at the Federal Defenders of New York in the Eastern District, where she represented criminal defendants from arraignment through sentencing. While at Federal Defenders, she gained extensive trial and courtroom experience, defending clients charged with wire fraud, securities fraud, healthcare fraud, and money laundering, among other charges. Abra was subsequently appointed to the Criminal Justice Act Panel in the Eastern District of New York, where she continues to represent indigent criminal defendants. Abra is also a board member of The Door, a non-profit organization that provides legal, medical, counseling, housing, and other services to at-risk youth in New York City.
Abra began her legal career as an associate at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, where she worked on white collar criminal defense and commercial litigation matters, as well as a four-week civil forfeiture jury trial in the Southern District of New York. She also clerked for the Honorable Raymond J. Dearie of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
Abra graduated with honors from The George Washington University Law School, where she was the Executive Articles Editor of The George Washington International Law Review. During law school, she served as an intern in the Public Integrity Section of the Department of Justice.
Prior to law school, Abra worked as a regulatory Compliance Analyst at Goldman Sachs. She also served as a Princeton in Latin America Fellow at Human Rights Watch in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Abra received her B.A. from Yale University.
