J. Ruffin Hunt is the founder of Hunt Law | Tampa Criminal Defense, where he focuses exclusively on defending individuals accused of crimes throughout Tampa, Hillsborough County, and the surrounding Tampa Bay area. His practice is dedicated solely to criminal and DUI defense, allowing him to provide strategic representation in cases ranging from misdemeanors to the most serious felony allegations.
Born and raised in Tampa, Mr. Hunt has spent his legal career representing individuals facing criminal charges in the community he calls home. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida before receiving his Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law.
Before founding his private practice, Mr. Hunt served as an attorney with the Hillsborough County Public Defender's Office, where he represented thousands of clients and handled cases involving DUI, drug offenses, violent crimes, domestic violence, theft offenses, sex crimes, firearm offenses, probation violations, and other serious criminal matters. During his tenure, he was promoted to Division Chief, supervising multiple divisions while continuing to maintain an active courtroom practice.
Mr. Hunt's extensive trial and courtroom experience gives him a practical understanding of Florida's criminal justice system and the strategies necessary to protect his clients' constitutional rights. He has successfully represented individuals at every stage of the criminal process, from first appearance and bond hearings through jury trials and sentencing.
In addition to his courtroom practice, Mr. Hunt previously served on the Board of Directors for the Hillsborough County Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, reflecting his commitment to the criminal defense profession and the continued protection of the rights of the accused.
