Attorney André C. Wharton graduated with honors from Hampton University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing. He then journeyed south to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he attended and finished law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) in 2002. At UNC Law, André was a mock trial finalist and obtained awards as the Best Negotiator and as a finalist in the National Environmental Negotiation Moot Court competition. While at UNC Law, consistent with what he still believes to be an obligation in improving and empowering his community, André was enrolled in the criminal law clinic where he counseled and tried cases for juveniles who had made missteps and were charged with delinquent matters in the Durham, North Carolina courts.
Before returning home to Memphis to join the family's Firm, André worked in Raleigh, North Carolina with the law firm of Yates, McClamb, and Weyher, LLP. At Yates McClamb, André practiced in the area of civil defense litigation, primarily handling medical malpractice, nursing home, and general insurance defense. During his tenure at Yates McClamb, André actively participated in several juries and judge trials. André returned home to join the Wharton Law Firm in 2004.
André primarily focuses his law practice in the areas of criminal law (state and federal courts), personal injury, including automobile accidents, healthcare liability, and wrongful death cases. André also handles employment, municipal, and juvenile law. André also handles matters involving probate law (conservatorships and guardianships), workers compensation, education law, and represents individuals and businesses in general commercial and administrative matters, among other areas. André is married to Attorney Monica N. Wharton and they have three sons, Andrew, Arthur, and Abram.
André has quickly embraced The Firm’s tradition of quality and integrity, and he regularly appears in criminal, civil, federal, and juvenile courts of law, and has tried cases in all of these courts. Since joining the Wharton Law Firm in 2004, André has tried numerous judge and jury trials to successful outcomes. André has also appeared several times before the Tennessee Court of Appeals and the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals in Jackson, Tennessee, where he has obtained several successful appellate outcomes. Along with the Firm's appellate team, he has also appeared before the Tennessee Supreme Court where he has also been successful as recently as 2020. André is also licensed and has handled several federal appeals in the United States Court of Appeals for The Sixth Circuit.
One of André's largest verdicts came in 2007 when along with Attorney Ruby Wharton, the Firm was successful in winning a brain injury victim a jury verdict of 4,000,000 dollars. André has successfully handled numerous other civil and criminal cases in his nineteen years of practice.
