David M. Mayer is the Managing Shareholder of Monsees & Mayer, P.C., a Kansas City-based plaintiffs’ law firm representing individuals and families in complex sexual abuse and personal injury litigation. A Kansas City native and trial attorney with more than three decades of experience, David has devoted his career to advocating for people who have been seriously harmed by the wrongful and negligent conduct of others.
David’s practice focuses particularly on representing survivors of sexual abuse, including children and other vulnerable individuals, as well as clients injured in motor vehicle accidents, premises liability cases, and other serious personal injury matters. He approaches each case with a commitment to holding individuals, businesses, institutions, and other responsible parties accountable while helping clients pursue the compensation and justice they deserve.
Throughout his career, David has achieved significant results for his clients through both trial verdicts and negotiated settlements. His results include a $24 million sexual abuse verdict, $8 million policy limits recovery for 5 children abused by a youth pastor, $5 million verdict for a high school student sexually abused by a teacher, $21 million policy limits settlement for the wrongful death of a woman when a school bus struck her in a crosswalk, a $5 million verdict arising from swimming pool negligence, and numerous multimillion-dollar confidential settlements in sexual abuse cases. He has also represented clients in cases involving dangerous property conditions, motor vehicle collisions, institutional negligence, and other serious injuries.
David’s accomplishments as a trial attorney have earned recognition from numerous legal organizations. He has been selected as one of The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100 and holds an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell, its highest peer-review rating for professional excellence and ethical standards. He is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers. David’s commitment to the legal profession extends beyond his courtroom practice. He was awarded the Pat Kelly Service Award by the University of Missouri-Kansas City Law Foundation and Law Alumni Association in recognition of his service and contributions. He has also volunteered with legal aid programs throughout Missouri and Kansas and has served on nonprofit boards, reflecting his longstanding commitment to his profession and community. He served as an active Board Member of the University of Missouri – Kansas City Foundation and as a member of the Dean’s Counsel. He is currently on the Missouri Bar Plan Foundation Board of Trustees.
David earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College in 1989, where he studied Political Science and Economics. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 1992. While in law school, he was a Victor Wilson Scholar and received the American Jurisprudence Award.
He is admitted to practice in Missouri and Kansas, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
David is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, The Missouri Bar, Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, Kansas Bar, Kansas Association for Justice, American Bar Association, and National Crime Victim Bar Association.
