Practicing law since 1993, Howard Manis has a breadth of experience in both civil and criminal litigation in both state and federal courts. In his over twenty years of practicing law, Howard has established numerous areas of concentration, including criminal defense in State and Federal courts, auto accidents, medical malpractice, wrongful death, personal injury, police misconduct, civil litigation, estate planning and civil rights. He also is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER and provides financial planning, estate planning and advisory assistance through his relationship at Kelman-Lazarov.
On August 15, 2016, Mr. Manis joined the Memphis Office of the Cochran Firm, bringing with him over twenty years of litigation experience in courtrooms throughout the south. Mr. Manis is the Managing Attorney of The Cochran Firm- Mid South. Mr. Manis has served as a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel in the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee for the past two decades. Mr. Manis is licensed to practice law in Tennessee, Arkansas & Mississippi.
Born and raised in Memphis, TN, Mr. Manis graduated from Germantown High School in 1984. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Risk Management and Estate Planning, he then went on to earn his Juris Doctor (J.D.) at the University of Memphis. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Memphis Bar Association, American Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, National Police Accountability Project, and Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association.
Howard is happily married to his wife Kim and has a son, Louie, and a daughter, Avery. When he is not working or spending time with his family, Howard enjoys golfing or cheering on the Grizzlies.
