A native of the Kanawha Valley, Attorney J. Tyler Barton grew up in Nitro, West Virginia. Tyler graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2021, earning a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Medical Biotechnology. Thereafter, Tyler attended the West Virginia University College of Law, where he excelled academically, earning three CALI awards and graduating in the top 15% of his class. While in law school, Tyler served as an Associate Editor and Senior Editor for the West Virginia Law Review, the country’s fourth-oldest law review. A testament to his legal writing acumen, Tyler’s work was published in Volume 123 of the West Virginia Law Review.

After graduating from law school, Tyler had the distinct honor of serving as a Term Law Clerk to Judge Thomas E. Johnston of the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia. Tyler’s clerkship gave him an unparalleled opportunity to gain insight into the judicial decision-making process, refine his analytical skills, and distill and digest complex (and often high-stakes) legal disputes.

Prior to joining the Firm, Tyler practiced with a highly regarded West Virginia litigation firm. There, Tyler represented businesses and other commercial entities in a wide variety of complex commercial disputes in both state and federal courts. Tyler also had an extensive appellate practice, which involved both pursuing and defending numerous appeals in both the West Virginia Intermediate Court of Appeals and the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals.

Tyler joined Farmer, Cline & Campbell in 2025 and now focuses his practice on representing individuals who have been wrongfully injured due to someone else’s fault. Tyler’s attention to detail, past experiences, and dedication to achieving favorable results make him a strong and effective advocate for the Firm’s clients.

Tyler resides in Kanawha City with his wife, son, and two dogs. A “four seasons sportsman,” Tyler enjoys spending as much of his free time outdoors as he can. Tyler enjoys golfing in the warmer months, hunting in the fall, and skiing in the winter months.
