Partner
James R. Cantalin is a Partner at Brown & Crouppen with more than 25 years of experience litigating personal injury matters. Before joining Brown & Crouppen in 2013, Jim was a partner at one of the largest defense firms in St. Louis, working on behalf of local and national insurance companies defending personal injury claims. His practice area included defending healthcare professionals, pharmacists, retailers, manufacturers, property owners, trucking operators, contractors, architects, engineers, and attorneys.
After years as a successful defense attorney, Jim switched sides to come to Brown & Crouppen to represent individuals who have suffered catastrophic losses. Because of his defense training, he understands the tactical approach that insurance companies utilize to defend injury claims. This intimate understanding gives him the unique ability to help clients obtain just compensation in the shortest amount of time and, if necessary, use his more than 25 years of trial experience to litigate the case to a jury.
The switch from representing insurance companies to fighting for injured victims and their families is also personal. Jim understands firsthand how surviving family members feel and what it means to have to carry on after a loss. He also understands that when a loss is due to the negligence of another, the law provides the opportunity for the individual to go to court to ask for justice. That “justice” is in the form of the only thing available to balance the loss – monetary compensation. Although it can never bring back a loved one or make the person physically whole, monetary compensation is often the only way to prevent financial catastrophe for the family, especially when it involves losing a parent or head of household.
Jim is licensed to practice in Missouri and Illinois. He received his law degree from the Saint Louis University School of Law, where he was a member of the Moot Court Team and the Saint Louis University Law Journal.
When not practicing law, Jim volunteers for numerous charitable organizations throughout St. Louis.
