Before coming to work for VB Attorneys, Jose worked for another personal injury firm in Houston where he focused his practice on catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and defective product cases. Jose handled cases from in-take to jury verdict or settlement, and is not afraid to take his client's cases to trial if needed. During his first-ever trial, he was part of a team that obtained a jury verdict that was sixty-five times the Defendant’sfinal settlement offer before trial.
In his second year of practice, Jose was selected by The National Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only organization, to their Top 40 Under40 list. He was also selected to the Texas Super Lawyers Rising Stars list, an honor shared with less than 2.5% of all attorneys in Texas.
Jose graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in History as a member of Phi AlphaTheta, the history honor society. He then moved back to his hometown of Houston where he was a recipient of the Dean’s Merit Scholarship during all three of his years at South Texas College of Law Houston. During law school, he served on the student government and was elected as President of his law school’s Texas Exes chapter. Jose began working in a personal injury law firm as a law clerk before becoming an attorney.
During college and in the years after, Jose became active in many non-profit organizations. As a student, he volunteered at the Workers Defense Project and served as a volunteer tutor for low-income elementary students. In between college and law school, Jose spent three years working as a housing specialist at the Austin Tenants’ Council where he represented individuals who needed emergency repairs to their homes or who were enduring illegal evictions. It was during these experiences that he realized his passion for representing individuals who experience injustices due to others.
When he is not working he enjoys cooking, traveling, playing soccer, and spending time with his wife Rachael.
