Jones, Esquire, J.D. Florida Statewide Criminal Trial Attorney Founder & Manager of Legal Operations at LHJ LAW Attorney Leon Jones has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1991. After growing up in England and Canada, he moved to the United States. Following his graduation from the University of Tampa, he obtained a law degree (Juris Doctorate) from Stetson University College of Law. After law school, he worked at the Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office as a felony prosecutor. He then went on to a private law firm in Downtown Tampa before starting his own law office in 1997 where he focused on criminal defense. Since opening LHJ LAW, he has represented hundreds of clients throughout the State of Florida and advocated for their legal rights in the courtroom to ensure that justice is served. Although he also handles cases in a few areas of law factually adjacent to criminal law, his primary focus is criminal defense and, in particular, serious and complex cases. He represents clients from as early as the investigative stage up through and including jury trial. Between both State and Federal Court, he has handled numerous cases with defendants facing many types of alleged crimes. Cases have included, but are not limited to, Murder/Homicide, Aggravated Battery & Assault/Domestic Violence, Racketeering (R.I.C.O.), Drug Trafficking/Delivery/Possession, Armed Kidnapping/Robbery/Burglary/Theft, Violation of Supervision. He has defended clients in crimes against people and property as well as financial/white-collar types of crimes. Of course, he has also handled many misdemeanors and traffic cases. Attorney Jones manages all of the Legal Operations of LHJ LAW, including case assessment, strategy development, research/writing, client communication, and courtroom performance. Over the years, LHJ LAW has had a diverse and global clientele. Our office has represented clients of many different nationalities and professional backgrounds, including attorneys. Attorney Jones is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (N.A.C.D.L.). He has also held the Series 7 and Series 63 licenses to sell investment and insurance products. In his limited free time, he enjoys educating students about the law and the legal profession. He has conducted mock trials for middle-school and high-school students as well as judged law-school student competitions. Attorney Jones believes that the law acts as both a sword and a shield for the protection of society. At the same time, he recognizes that the Criminal Justice System creates a strain on not only the accused, but on family, friends, and employers. His skill and experience on both sides of the aisle is brought to bear for every client that entrusts him with his or her case. He believes that, beyond skill and experience, it is the degree of diligence in working a case that has the greatest impact on the results obtained for a client. Attorney Jones understands that clients rightly expect a high level of personalized attention to their cases.
