Marlo Greer is an accomplished trial lawyer who centers her practice in the area of serious personal injury. Her practice focuses on motor vehicle collisions, sexual abuse, medical malpractice, hospital negligence, slip and fall, and nursing home negligence. She provides aggressive and compassionate representation to individuals and families who have suffered injuries at the hands of others.
You will never hear Ms. Greer use the term “accident” when it comes to the injuries suffered by her clients. She believes that hurting another individual whether intentionally or negligently is never a simple accident. In her role as advocate, counselor, and trial attorney, she knows that one of her most important qualities is the ability to listen and understand the needs of the individuals she represents. In her mind the most important accolade an attorney can receive is a client’s sincere “thank you” for the representation provided.
Ms. Greer has been involved in numerous medical cases, including surgical malpractice, retained instrument cases, orthopedic injuries, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, gastrointestinal injuries, birth injuries, patient death, nursing errors, and mismanaged infections. Ms. Greer’s representation of her clients has resulted in settlements and verdicts ranging from five figure cases to multi-million dollar cases. There is no “small case” to her. Every case and every client is important.
While in Law School, Ms. Greer suffered a spinal fracture after being thrown from a horse. This injury gave her first-hand experience regarding inappropriate medical care and dealing with insurance companies that put profits before people. Due to these experiences, Ms. Greer dedicates her practice to ensuring that her clients receive personal representation in the same manner that she would wish to be treated as a victim of negligent conduct. For her, every case deserves personal and professional attention.
Ms. Greer has lived in Colorado most of her life, graduating from the University of Colorado at Denver in 1997 and receiving the Dean’s scholarship for academic achievement. She received her J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law in 2001, earning the distinction of Student of the Year in the Student Law Office. During college and Law School, Ms. Greer focused on her trial skills by participating in mock trial competitions and by acting as a student lawyer for individuals accused of crimes who could not afford representation. After graduating Law School, she focused on her trial practice in the area of criminal defense and personal injury at a small firm whose goal was to ensure the rights of individuals accused of crimes and that the rights of victims of automobile collisions were protected. Before becoming a founding member of Greer Law Firm, Ms. Greer continued her work as an advocate for the injured with midsized plaintiff’s firms representing medical malpractice victims and people who suffered traumatic brain injuries, spine injuries and orthopedic injuries. Ms. Greer also worked with a defense firm representing medical professionals. Her experience as a defense lawyer gives her valuable insight into insurance company tactics, which now helps her serve her clients as a plaintiff’s attorney.
Ms. Greer lives in Denver and is committed to her community and family. She spent several years as the garden leader for the Stapleton Greenway Garden, which is a Denver Urban Gardens (DUG) community garden committed to providing local communities with fresh produce while fostering healthy values and community involvement. The Greenway Garden provides residents with the opportunity for a sustainable food source for gardeners of all ages, experience, and income levels. She also served on the State Board of Social Work Examiners, which reviews complaints related to alleged violations of the Practice Act for Social Workers and volunteered her time on a Hospital Board that reviews medical research and studies related to improving medical care. When she is not working or volunteering, she loves spending time with her husband and fellow bar member, Brian Proffitt, and their two children. She is an avid runner who strives to meet her goal of completing at least four half-marathons per year. Whenever someone asks about running, she says she’s only “half-crazy.”
Ms. Greer is licensed to practice in Colorado State Courts, the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. She has been admitted to practice in Indiana, Montana and Wyoming. She is a member of the American Association for Justice, the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, the Colorado Women’s Bar Association, and the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations.
