Matthew W. Brissenden graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University, with dual degrees in Economics and Philosophy. Thereafter, he attended the University of Michigan Law School, generally ranked as one of the top law schools in the country.
Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Brissenden accepted a position in the commercial litigation department of a large, highly-regarded Manhattan law firm. During his tenure there, Mr. Brissenden gained extensive experience in the field of complex civil litigation, representing sophisticated, institutional clients in a wide variety of substantive areas.
In 2003, Mr. Brissenden took a position with Stephen P. Scaring, widely considered to be Long Island's preeminent criminal defense attorney. At Stephen P. Scaring, P.C., Mr. Brissenden specialized in the representation of clients charged with various types of fraud and white collar offenses.
In 2006, Mr. Brissenden was elevated to the position of partner, and the firm Scaring & Brissenden, PLLC was formed. Mr. Brissenden has handled a large number of high-profile cases, representing a wide range of corporate and individual clients with respect to both federal and state prosecutions throughout Long Island, Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan.
In 2011, Mr. Brissenden started Matthew W. Brissenden, P.C., a full-service litigation practice, servicing clients throughout Long Island and the five boroughs. He maintains an office in Garden City.
Since 2015, Mr. Brissenden has been named one of the National Trial Lawyers: Top 100 Criminal Defense Trial Attorneys for the New York area.
