
Ms. Cortes represented hundreds of clients as a former Colorado public defender, taking misdemeanor criminal cases, DUIs, and DUIDs to trial.
She was awarded the Melanie Hardaway Memorial Award for Academic Excellence in recognition of graduating in the top 5% of her class and making the overall greatest contribution to the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. She was also the recipient of the Public Good Distinction Award, the Daniel S. Hoffman Endowed Scholarship, the Arthur B. Hayutin Endowed Scholarship, the Stephen H. Diamond Memorial Endowed Scholarship, and the University of Denver Crimson & Gold Scholarship.
Ms. Cortes is also a former public school teacher who taught Spanish in rural Southern communities while her husband served as a Marine Corps officer.
