PHIL ARNOLD
Attorney Phil Arnold and has spent decades representing clients in high profile litigation, including tobacco litigation and BNSF Railway class action litigation.
A recipient of Martindale-Hubbell's highest (AV) rating for ethics and ability, attorney Phil Arnold has been honored as a Washington Superlawyer (by Washington Law and Politics magazine), and was nominated in 1985 for Trial Lawyer of the Year by the American Association for Justice (AAJ, formerly known as the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, TLPJ), recognizing his work on behalf of children seeking recovery for damages when their parent-child relationship is damaged as a result of parental injury.? Phil was one of seven trial attorneys nationally featured that year in their publication, Trial Lawyers Doing Public Justice.
The Washington State Association for Justice (WSAJ) presented Phil with their President's Award in 1992 for work that resulted in new and amended rules adopted by the Washington Supreme Court.
Phil has successfully argued a number of appellate cases during his long career before both the Washington State Supreme Court and the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals (San Francisco).? In 1998, Phil successfully argued before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of Railroad Workers, expanding the Federal Employers' Liability Act scope of employment rule to include injuries suffered at employer-railroad motels.
In 2006, Phil again successfully argued before the Washington Supreme Court, restricting insurance companies from manipulating expert opinions in uninsured motorist (UIM) claims.
Phil has served as Chair of the Washington State Bar Association's Court Rules and served on the Procedures Committee and their Court Congestion and Improvement Committee.? He is licensed to practice in Washington and Oregon State Courts, US District Courts in Eastern and Western Washington, Montana, and Oregon, admitted to practice before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the US Supreme Court.
