Richard Morefield is a founding member of Morefield Speicher Bachman, LC. He practices primarily in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, traumatic brain injury and business litigation. Mr. Morefield maintains an active trial practice in the state and federal courts of Missouri and Kansas and is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States. He has handled cases in all phases of litigation including trials, appeals, and mediation. He is also a trained mediator.

Mr. Morefield received his B.A. in Economics from Rice University in 1983 and his law degree from the University of Kansas in 1986. He was awarded a full scholarship to law school and was selected to be a member of the school's National Moot Court Team in 1986.

Following law school, Mr. Morefield practiced law for seven years with one of the largest firms in the Kansas City area, representing the interests of insurance companies, major corporations, and financial institutions. In 1993, Mr. Morefield started a firm with the goal of representing the interests of those injured physically or financially by the wrongdoing of others - e.g., product liability, auto accident, and fraud victims.

In 2014, Mr. Morefield started Morefield Speicher Bachman, LC to continue that goal of representing those who have been victimized by the wrongdoing or negligence of others. Morefield Speicher Bachman, LC is also dedicated to helping those who cannot afford an attorney. Each attorney in the firm is committed to providing up to 10% of his billable time to pro bono and community service work.

Mr. Morefield has held numerous leadership positions in local, state, and national bar associations. He is a past member of the Council of the ABA's Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section, past chair of the Litigation and Trial Practice committee, past chair of the Standing Committee on Plaintiffs' Practice, past co-chair of the Law Practice Management Task Force and served as editor-in-chief of the quarterly law magazine The Brief. He served two years as an officer in the American Bar Association-YLD. In 2004 -2005, he was President of the Lawyers Association of Kansas City.

He has been recognized in Who's Who in American Law and has been awarded the highest rating for legal ability and ethics (AV) by the Martindale-Hubbell Legal Directory. Mr. Morefield has also been selected as a Kansas and Missouri SuperLawyer in each year since 2005. Mr. Morefield has lectured on Missouri tort law, trial techniques, Kansas workers' compensation law, and the Federal Tort Claims Act. Mr. Morefield regularly teaches other attorneys at local and national continuing legal education seminars on topics ranging from insurance law to trial techniques and tactics. In 2019, he served on the faculty of the TIPS/ABOTA National Trial Academy where he and other experienced trial lawyers taught less experienced lawyers how to succeed in the courtroom. He was invited back as a faculty member for 2020.

Also active in his church, Mr. Morefield is a former elder in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He plays electric guitar on the worship team at Gashland Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He is an avid soccer fan and enjoys playing classic rock and blues guitar.
