Rocky Brancato
Founder & Lead Trial Attorney, The Brancato Law Firm, P.A.
Tampa, Florida | Criminal Defense | Sex Crimes | Major Felonies
Rocky Brancato is the founder of The Brancato Law Firm, P.A., and a nationally recognized trial lawyer with more than 25 years of courtroom experience. Known for his command of complex criminal cases, he has tried and defended some of the most serious charges in Florida, including sex crimes, violent felonies, and high-profile homicide cases.
Few defense lawyers have seen the criminal justice system from as many sides. Mr. Brancato served as Chief Operating Officer of the Hillsborough County Public Defender’s Office, the office’s second-in-command, where he oversaw a staff of over 100. In that role, he not only managed major trial strategy but also trained younger attorneys in advanced courtroom techniques, forensic evidence, and expert collaboration. He has also taught as a police academy instructor, giving him firsthand knowledge of how officers are trained to investigate, interrogate, write reports, and testify.
Mr. Brancato’s practice is distinguished by his elite background in a specialized sex crimes unit and the Major Crimes Unit, where he honed a deep understanding of both prosecution tactics and defense strategy. That experience, combined with his work training law enforcement, sets him apart from most private defense attorneys and informs the firm’s reputation as the go-to practice for defending against life-altering allegations in Tampa Bay and surrounding counties.
His work has earned him an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell, selection to Super Lawyers, a 10.0 rating on Avvo, and consistent 5-star client reviews. He is also the author of How to Choose a Major Crimes Attorney – or Any Criminal Defense Attorney for That Matter (available on Amazon), a guide that demystifies the process of selecting experienced trial counsel.
