As a commercial litigator, Sophie represents individual and corporate clients across myriad industries in state and federal court. She is a detail-oriented advocate who is well-versed in all facets of commercial litigation, IP (trademark and copyright) litigation, and white collar investigations. Sophie has extensive experience defending class actions, particularly in the context of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and the Lanham Act. Her pro bono practice includes prosecuting deliberate indifference claims on behalf of inmates with serious medical needs.
Prior to joining Taft, Sophie proudly served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Mark J. Dinsmore in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Sophie thoroughly enjoyed her clerkship experience, during which she gained invaluable writing experience and expanded her working knowledge of complex civil procedure. As a federal clerk, Sophie assisted with drafting numerous orders and overseeing civil cases from discovery to disposition, and she gained a deep well of knowledge regarding social security appeals.
Sophie received her J.D., cum laude, with a concentration in criminal law and procedure from the University of Illinois Chicago John Marshall Law School. While in law school, she served as a judicial extern for the Honorable James E. Shadid in the Central District of Illinois, Peoria Division, and interned in various capacities, including for the Illinois State’s Attorney Appellate Prosecutor, the Federal Defender, the ACLU of Illinois, and CARPLS Legal Aid. Sophie was part of record-breaking moot court and mock trial teams and was a staff editor for the UIC John Marshall Law Review. Her article, Escaping Death: The Colorado Method of Jury Selection, was published in 2021 and received UIC Law’s Scribe Award.
Sophie graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism and a minor in political science. She was an award-winning, nationally-ranked member of the Bradley University Speech Team, as well as the team’s historian and media chair.
