Tim Whaley represents clients throughout Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia with a focus on catastrophic personal injury cases, including lawsuits involving negligent security, fires, vehicle and trucking collisions, medical malpractice, product liability, gas explosions, and police misconduct. Tim has handled dozens of cases involving serious and catastrophic injuries ranging from wrongful death, paralysis, loss of limb, brain injury, and other very serious injuries.
After working at The Cochran Firm as a law clerk, Tim began his legal career in the courtroom as an Assistant State Attorney for Miami-Dade County, Florida. He tried over 40 jury trials to verdict on charges ranging from misdemeanors to drug trafficking, attempted murder, and DUI manslaughter. He also tried numerous bench trials and argued countless motions in front of a wide variety of judges. Tim was a member of the Traffic Homicide Unit investigating motor vehicle deaths and was awarded a Prosecution Award of Honor from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
Tim then gained experience as a civil litigator working as an attorney and eventually becoming a partner at a South Florida-based litigation firm. At the firm, he litigated a variety of negligent security, fire, construction defect, premises liability, and motor vehicle accident lawsuits. Tim became very familiar with the everyday practices of hospitals, health systems, and insurance carriers, and uses that knowledge to fight for his clients every day.
A native of Seattle, Tim earned his juris doctor from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC and his bachelor of arts degree, with majors in economics and journalism, from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. He and his wife reside in Northern Virginia.
