
From humble beginnings, Nicholas Amani was given up for adoption at birth. After living in 18 foster care homes and institutions, he was rescued from the NYC foster care system and adopted at age 5. Through the love and support of his new parents, William and Geneva, he thrived and eventually became a lawyer.
Nicholas Amani has successfully defended thousands of clients who have been criminally charged in both State and Federal Courts. Of particular note, Mr. Amani obtained a 20 minute 'not guilty' jury verdict in Erie County Court before Judge Timothy J. Drury in a prisoner case where his client was charged with throwing fecal matter at correction officers which was testified to by officer eyewitnesses and captured on video. Had his client been convicted, he faced the possibility of life in prison based on his prior criminal history.
In yet another case, Mr. Amani obtained a 'not guilty' jury verdict in Erie County Supreme Court, before Judge Penny Wolfgang, where his client had been accused of stabbing to death an individual who was subsequently resuscitated and testified against Mr. Amani's client.
In addition to successful criminal defense, Nicholas Amani also has successfully represented thousands of clients in divorce, custody and support matters.
Nicholas has served on a number of prestigious boards and organizations including the Erie County Bar Association's Judicial Ratings Committee; The Erie County Attorney Grievance Committee and is the past President of the Aid to Indigent Prisoners Society, Inc.Â
Mr. Amani is also an Adjunct Professor in the Criminal Justice and Paralegal Departments at Erie Community College.
Among a number of awards and citations, in 2012 Mr. Amani was honored with the "Criminal Defense Distinguished Service Award" by the Erie County Assigned Counsel Organization. In 2019, Mr. Amani was inducted into "The National Trial Lawyer's Top 100" for his criminal defense success and in 2021 was invited into the 'Nation's Top One Percent-Distinguished Counsel'.
