Brandon Cathey is a partner of Swope, Rodante P.A. representing the victims of insurance bad faith, legal malpractice and catastrophic personal injuries. He represents clients in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels in Florida and Georgia.
Mr. Cathey has remained at the cutting edge of the law, having consulted with and given seminars to hundreds of lawyers throughout the United States on insurance coverage and bad faith issues affecting their clients.
Mr. Cathey has worked to protect the civil justice system through several professional organizations. He has been an Eagle member of the Florida Justice Association since he graduated law school in 2004, and served on its Board of Directors, as the presidential designate of the Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers Association, in 2010. He is the President of the Taxpayers Against Insurance Bad Faith, which works to protect the rights of insurance customers. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers Association. And, he is the Chair of the Placement Committee for the Florida State Law Alumni Board of Directors.
Through his efforts for his clients and the community, Mr. Cathey has received professional recognition, including an "AV Preeminent" Rating from Martindale Hubbell since 2012, selection to Super Lawyers' "Rising Stars" every year since 2010, recognition by American Lawyer Media and Martindale-Hubbell as a "Top Rated Lawyer in Insurance Law," and a 10/10 "Superb" Rating from Avvo.com.
Mr. Cathey graduated from the Florida State University College of Law in 2004. He was selected to be a member of the Moot Court Team, awarded Best Brief among first-year law students who competed to join the moot court team, and chosen to present his oral argument before the Florida Supreme Court as a member of the prestigious "Final Four." Brandon was also selected Co-Champion of the American Bar Association, FSU College of Law Negotiation Competition and awarded the Distinguished Pro Bono Service award for his efforts to assist the wrongly convicted through the Florida Innocence Project. Prior to law school, he learned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in both History and English at the University of South Florida.
Mr. Cathey and his wife, Sarah, are proud parents to their son, Sawyer.
