Stan is the founding Partner at Willis Spangler Starling. He dedicated most of his early years to practicing Construction Law and Business Law. As a solo practitioner, Stan gained a wide range of experience in multiple areas of the law. Stan graduated from Capital Law School in 1991. His undergraduate years were spent at Ohio Northern University where he played football and was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. In 1987, Stan graduated from ONU with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
After graduating from ONU, Stan worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation as an Engineering Intern, subsequently taking the role of Assistant Geometrics Engineer in the Bureau of Location and Design. After a year of working full-time while attending law school at night, Stan decided to go all-in with school and transferred to the day program at Capital. While a student at Capital, stan clerked in the ODOT section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
After law school, Stan took a position at CJ Mahan Construction Company. While at Mahan, Stan spent time preparing claims for delays, changed circumstances, acceleration and other such issues related to complex construction projects. He also dealt with OSHA regulations and compliance issues. Stan left that job after about a year and founded what is now Willis Spangler Starling on August 1, 1992.
Stan gained a lot of experience in those early years negotiating and litigating complex contract issues among multiple parties where the stakes were high. During the ensuing years, Stan has gained an enormous amount of experience from advising individuals in businesses of nearly every kind as well as building and managing Willis Spangler Starling.
Stan is married to WSS Senior partner Kelly Willis, ESQ. Stan and Kelly have three children and two grandchildren and currently live in London, Ohio. Stan enjoys spending time on the lake and flying airplanes. Stan has spent time in the Hilliard Rotary, where he served as a Board Member. He also served on the Franklin County Fair Board and has become a member of the Agricultural Society. He is currently primarily working on Business Development at WSS as well as acting as a mediator at Willis Mediation.Â
