Clive is widely recognized as one of the leading trial lawyers in the state of Texas. Clive has a prosecutorial style of practice that has carried over from his days as a distinguished trial lawyer in the Harris County District Attorney’s office where he tried more than 80 cases to verdict. Clive was later recruited away by an elite Houston civil trial firm where he represented insurance companies and large corporations in contested trials and arbitrations.
Clive later formed Markland Firm PLLC where he specialized in construction disputes, personal injury, and serious crimes. In 2016, Clive merged Markland Firm PLLC with Sean Roberts forming Roberts Markland LLP which specializes in catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits. Clive has a particular passion for civil rights cases involving excessive force by law enforcement and has sued and settled with some of the most notorious law enforcement agencies in the nation. Clive also has unique expertise in construction-related accidents and deaths.
Today, Clive is recognized by the National Association of Distinguished Counsel as a Top 1% trial lawyer. Clive is also active in the American Association for Justice, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, and the Houston Trial Lawyers Association.
Clive is invested in the Houston community through various charities and non-profit organizations and political initiatives. Clive was actively involved with the Obama-For-America campaign and many other state and local campaigns. Clive also supports the Houston art community through sponsorship of the Ensemble Theater and the Houston Museum of African American Culture.
Clive is a dedicated and proud father of 7-year-old daughter Elizabeth “Lizzy” Markland. Together, Clive and Lizzy enjoy traveling, fine cuisine (including In-N-Out Burger), and watching movies. Clive’s hobbies include fitness training and boxing.
