Hunter is a Birmingham native and a proud recipient of both his Bachelor’s and Law degree from the University of Alabama. Over the past decade, he has gained a wide range of legal experience — but his true passion has always been representing the criminally accused.
After graduating law school, Hunter began his legal career with the Birmingham Bar Volunteer Lawyer Project before joining the Jefferson County Public Defender’s Office in 2014. There, he quickly earned a reputation for skilled, client-centered representation. His early successes included securing a reversal from the Alabama Supreme Court following his very first jury trial, and becoming the first attorney in Jefferson County to successfully introduce expert testimony on eyewitness identification.
Hunter spent several years in civil litigation, representing local businesses and working on complex, high-stakes cases. While this broadened his perspective and sharpened his courtroom presence, his heart remained in criminal defense. In 2021, he returned to the Public Defender’s Office, fully committed to defending individuals against government prosecution.
Soon after returning, Hunter was promoted to the Special Crimes Unit, handling the office’s most serious and complex cases. He later served as a courtroom supervisor, mentoring other attorneys and managing trial strategy. Whether it’s a drug possession charge or capital murder, Hunter is known for holding prosecutors to their burden and protecting every constitutional right. He understands that trial wins matter — but so do the strategic pretrial victories that keep clients out of the courtroom entirely.
