For more than two decades, Jason Kohlmeyer has helped Minnesota families navigate the most complex and emotional legal challenges. From divorces involving multi-million-dollar family farms and closely held businesses to sensitive custody disputes, Jason’s approach blends strategic advocacy with practical problem-solving.
Jason’s path to law began far from the courtroom. Raised on the wide-open prairie of western Minnesota, he spent summers working on his uncle’s farm before serving as an Army Reserve Intelligence Analyst. That discipline and work ethic carried him through Concordia College and into teaching high school social studies. But it was his desire to help people resolve conflicts that ultimately led him to Hamline University School of Law, where he graduated in 2000.
After early experience as a prosecutor with the Dakota County Attorney’s Office and nearly a decade at a respected trial firm, Jason opened Kohlmeyer Hagen in 2008. Since 2010, he has dedicated his practice exclusively to family law, building a reputation for tackling high-asset, high-conflict cases with clarity and precision.
A respected voice in the legal community, Jason has spoken at events hosted by the American Bar Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Minnesota CLE, and the American Association for Justice. He is also the author of The Divorce Survival Guide: Getting Divorced in Minnesota, host of the Minnesota Family Law & Divorce Questions podcast, and a weekly blogger at MinnesotaFamilyLaw.com.
When he’s not advocating for clients, Jason lives in Mankato with his wife and children and pursues his love of adventure motorcycling, riding everywhere from the Himalayas to the Rockies.
