For more than 30 years, JT has stood up for people — not corporations, not insurance companies, and never the government. His entire career has been about helping individuals and families when life takes a difficult turn.
Early in his career, JT worked as a criminal defense attorney, representing people accused of all kinds of offenses — from simple traffic tickets in city court to international drug trafficking cases in federal court. He tried more than 100 of those cases to jury verdict, gaining invaluable courtroom experience and a deep understanding of what it takes to advocate for real people under pressure.
Eventually, JT found his true calling in medical malpractice law. He began by handling nursing home neglect cases, which later expanded into representing patients and families who were seriously harmed by negligent medical care generally. Today, he focuses exclusively on Texas medical malpractice cases involving catastrophic injury or wrongful death caused by a Texas medical provider. He doesn’t handle car wrecks, slip-and-fall cases, workers’ comp, family law, or other matters — just medical malpractice. That singular focus has placed him among a small group of Texas attorneys who practice only in this complex and demanding area of law.
JT’s dedication and results haven’t gone unnoticed. Lawyers across the country have invited him to give seminar presentations to medical malpractice attorneys from Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia, of course, Texas. His peers have recognized him on the Super Lawyers list, and Austin Monthly magazine has named him one of the city’s top plaintiff medical malpractice attorneys.
Outside the courtroom, JT also works to protect patients’ rights at the Capitol. Since 2015, he’s served on multiple Bill Review Committees for the Texas Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA) and has taken on special legislative projects for two TTLA Presidents. Legislators have asked for his help in drafting medical-related bills, and he’s testified before both the Texas House and Senate on major issues affecting patient safety and medical accountability.
Because of his focus and reputation, other medical malpractice lawyers — and even state legislators — have referred serious Texas medical malpractice cases to JT.
