Joe Maher stands ready to defend good people in challenging times.

Before founding Maher & Maher Law, Mr. Maher served five years as an El Paso County prosecutor. At the DA’s Office, Joe mentored and trained DUI prosecutors, represented the DA on the Veterans Treatment Court team, and served on the DA’s vehicular homicide team.

Now in private practice, Mr. Maher focuses his work on defending clients charged with alcohol- related driving crimes. He provides clients with skilled, ethical, and vigorous representation. Having tried more than sixty criminal jury trials as a prosecutor and defense attorney, Joe skillfully leverages this dual perspective to assess each client’s case with a sharp eye.

In addition to his accomplishment as a trial lawyer, Mr. Maher has intentionally developed elite DUI defense capabilities by successfully completing the 24-hour National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST), the NHTSA Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) course, the 32-hour SFST Instructor Course, and the Axion Laboratories Forensic Chromatography and Forensic Drug Analysis courses in Chicago, IL. Joe is a member of the DUI Defense Lawyers Association, the National College of DUI Defense, the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar, the Colorado Bar Association, and the El Paso County Bar Association.

Joe served as a Marine Corps Infantry Officer before becoming an attorney. He attained the rank of Captain, commanding two platoons and a company of Marines during three deployments to Iraq from 2004 to 2008. The Marine Corps Association awarded Joe the Chambers Award for leadership following his company command tour.

Joe’s experiences as a trial attorney, military officer, legislative staff member, and combat veteran have forged an unapologetic respect for the U.S. Constitution and an unwavering belief that the rights enshrined within it must be defended at the level of the individual citizen.
