Principal Member Karmen M. (Kater) Slezak received her B.A. in International Relations from Scripps College in Claremont, California in 1986, and her Juris Doctor Degree in 1991 from the University of Baltimore School of Law. As a former trial counsel for a major insurance company, she has significant trial experience in personal injury litigation both in the District Courts and Circuit Courts of Maryland. Ms. Slezak also practices in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Ms. Slezak has been named Lawyer of Distinction for Excellence in Personal Injury Law.
The Baltimore County (and previously Harford County) resident first joined the firm in 2003 as an Associate, and in April 2010 became a Partner. Ms. Slezak is a member of the American Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, the Baltimore County Bar Association, and the Maryland Association for Justice (MAJ), including the Legislative Leaders Circle of the MAJ, and she is a member in good standing of the Maryland Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
Ms. Slezak presently concentrates in the areas of civil and automobile tort litigation; however, she has also handled numerous criminal/traffic matters, landlord/tenant matters and bankruptcy cases throughout her career. Over the years, Ms. Slezak has also volunteered in various ways to promote the law such as participating as an Attorney coach for various high school Moot Court teams and participating in a seminar that taught young attorneys trial techniques. Currently, she volunteers as a mentor for several young attorneys.
In her life outside of the law, Ms. Slezak enjuoys bicycling, running, fishing, cooking and she is active in many community organizations, including membership with the Middle River Rotary Club where she holds the position of Chairperson for the Scholarship Committee and past President (2018-2020), membership in the Chesapeake Gateway Chamber and she is on the Board of the Wilson Point Civic Improvement Association. When asked what Ms. Slezak enjoys the most about her job, she stated, “I enjoy helping my injured clients attain the justice that they deserve.”
