Lisa Nathanson Busch is the managing attorney of the bankruptcy department at Simmons Hanly Conroy. She supports both attorneys and clients in the areas of mesothelioma and mass tort litigation.

Based in the firm’s New York office, Lisa brings nearly 30 years of experience to her position at Simmons Hanly Conroy. Since 2000, she has helped over 30,000 clients pursue the compensation they deserve through asbestos trust fund claims.

“Helping patients secure compensation against the companies who caused their disease allows them to pay for medical bills and live their lives with a little bit of comfort after they’ve gotten sick,” Lisa explained.

Holding Asbestos Companies Accountable

Many asbestos companies knew they were putting people in danger with their products and did not provide protection against the toxic dust. Lisa helps victims of asbestos exposure access funds from companies that have since declared bankruptcy.

Lisa is an active member of over 20 trust advisory committees (TACs), and she serves as the chair of multiple trust committees as well. These groups provide oversight to trusts and verify that the trusts are administered properly.

“I am there to make sure the trust and trustees are implementing the right procedures so that everyone is treated equally and paid fairly,” said Lisa.

With a strong commitment to excellence and equity, Lisa’s contributions to the current state of asbestos trust funds have helped many innocent people secure much-needed compensation. In addition to developing and streamlining the claims process for more than 50 trusts, she is also a founding chair of the American Association of Justice (AAJ) Tort Bankruptcy Group.

“Professionally, I’m very hands-on. I like to personally check in with clients and see how they’re doing,” Lisa explained.

Background & Experience

Lisa graduated with a B.A. from Duke University in 1990. In 1993, she completed her J.D. at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.

Before joining Simmons Hanly Conroy, Lisa held numerous leadership positions at Weitz & Luxenberg. She began her legal career as a silicone breast implant litigator and soon became a member of the firm’s asbestos department.

Since then, Lisa has served as the managing attorney for the asbestos bankruptcy department, new case department, and the lien resolution department. Her experience comes as a great asset to her clients.

In addition to her professional responsibilities, Lisa gives back as a pro-bono evaluator for asbestos bankruptcy trusts. She is also the co-founder of Holes for Hope, a charity benefiting those affected by autism.
