Mark A. Barney has earned solid reputation representing people injured through no fault of their own. His cases range from wrongful death cases where workers died on the jobsite to car wreck cases where severe injuries forever altered his clients’ lives.
Mark has a proven track record in defending people against criminal charges. His criminal law practice includes the defense of charges ranging from DUI, to domestic battery, to murder. He dedicates a portion of his practice to representing inmates in habeas corpus, post-conviction cases challenging the constitutionality of their sentences.
Mark attended West Virginia University where he received his B.A. in Psychology and Sociology and an M.A. in Sociology. He earned his J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law.
Mark previously served as a Judicial Law Clerk in the Twenty-Ninth Judicial Circuit of West Virginia. He also served as an Administrative Law Judge for the West Virginia Public Employees Grievance Board. Prior to founding Barney Law PLLC, he worked with a personal injury law firm in Charleston, West Virginia, representing injured workers and their families.
He is admitted to practice before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia.
Mark and his family live in Putnam County, West Virginia. When not with his family or in the office, he can be found hunting or fishing.
